If you have reached the dreaded time of toilet training with your little one, the chances are, you have wondered if there is anything you can do to make the transition less stressful! Here are a few tips on starting potty training that we found useful:
• Leave a potty where your little one can see it regularly and can get to know what it's used for. If you've got an older child, relative or friend to your toddler, your younger child may see them using the potty or toilet, which will be a great help. It helps to let your toddler see you using the toilet and explain to your child what you're doing.
• If your child regularly has bowel movements at the same time each day, leave off their nappy and suggest that they use the potty instead. If your child is even the slightest bit upset by the idea, just put the nappy back on and leave it a few more weeks before trying again. Forcing your child to go to the potty may only make a tough situation harder!
• As soon as you see that your child knows when they're going to wee, encourage them to use their potty or toilet. If your toddler has a mishap, just mop it up and wait for next time. It takes a while for you both to get the hang of it. If you don't make a fuss when they have an accident, they won't feel anxious and upset and are more likely to be successful next time.
• Your child will be excited when he or she succeeds. A little praise from you can help a lot. It can be tricky to get the balance right between giving praise and making a big deal out of it, which is not advised! Don't give sweets as a reward, as that can end up causing more problems. When the time is right, your child will want to use the potty and they will just be happy that they got it right!
Our Bright Bots washable training pants provide a great value solution to getting your child out of nappies and on the road to success. Our comfortable pull up pants are designed to minimise accidents during your toddlers’ transition from nappies to toilet. The pants have a cotton, polyester and terry fill to absorb moisture and a PUL lining to help prevent leaks. The Bright Bots Training Pants are designed to look and feel like the pants that 'older kids' wear and so encourage your child to progress through potty training.
Your child should be changed each time the pants get wet. The reusable pants are not designed to absorb liquid or hold it indefinitely, rather, they let your child feel the moisture so that they are more aware that they need the toilet and can tell you when they have a little accident. The Bright Bots trainer pants are washable and hard wearing and so are a less expensive and environmentally friendly alternative to disposable training pants.
Bright Bots come in a range of fun colours, so why not get your child involved and let them choose their favourites. This will encourage your toddler to get involved with the training process and will get them excited about wearing ‘grown up’ pants.
